Product Overview |
Hydroquinone (1,4-Benzenediol, CAS No. 123-31-9) is an aromatic diol widely used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of rubber chemicals, dyes and photographic materials. Our hydroquinone is manufactured via aniline oxidation-reduction process. Raw materials include aniline, sulfuric acid and pyrolusite (MnO2). Aniline is oxidized to p-benzoquinone under acidic condition, followed by iron powder reduction. Manganese sulfate from production wastewater is recycled as by-product for manganese series new materials, forming a closed-loop circular economy.
It is particularly suitable for the formulation of rubber antioxidant and photo-developing agents.
Hydroquinone can also be used in polymer polymerization inhibitor and cosmetic raw-material systems, where its molecular structure can support strong reducing property, good water solubility, and formulation flexibility.
Hydroquinone and its derivatives are also applied in multiple fine chemical synthesis routes and act as auxiliary agents for textile dyeing and bleaching processes. As a reducing agent, it scavenges free radicals to prevent oxidation degradation of polymers and rubber products during processing and storage.

Applications |
Applications of Hydroquinone
Hydroquinone (1,4-Benzenediol, CAS 123-31-9) is an aromatic diol widely used as a building block in fine chemical, polymer and specialty formulation industries. Its molecular structure with dual hydroxyl groups makes it particularly suitable for reducing agent, polymerization inhibitor, and selected high-performance industrial chemical systems.
Polymer Inhibitors & Stabilizers
Hydroquinone is commonly used in the production of polymerization inhibitors for acrylic monomers, vinyl monomers and unsaturated polyester resins. Its strong reducing property can support effective free-radical scavenging, good organic solubility, and formulation flexibility, making it suitable for industrial monomer storage and processing applications.
Typical application areas include:
Acrylic monomer stabilizers
Unsaturated polyester resin inhibitors
Vinyl monomer anti-oxidation agents
Industrial monomer storage stabilizers
Photographic & Imaging Chemicals
Hydroquinone can be used in chemical systems designed for photographic developers and imaging processing formulations. Hydroquinone-based developer formulations may provide a useful balance of reduction activity and processing performance, including fast developing speed, stable image contrast, and good compatibility with other imaging auxiliaries.
It is particularly suitable for formulations where high reduction efficiency, good water solubility, and stable imaging performance are required.
Rubber & Synthetic Material Additives
Hydroquinone is also used as a functional component in rubber antioxidant and synthetic material auxiliary agents. These additive systems are used in rubber products and applications requiring anti-aging performance.
Typical applications include:
Rubber anti-oxidant intermediates
Synthetic rubber stabilizers
Dye intermediate raw materials
Textile dyeing auxiliaries
Fine Chemicals & End-use Formulations
Hydroquinone-based chemical systems can be used in fine chemical synthesis and specialty intermediate applications, particularly where reduction reactivity and intermediate derivatization capability are important performance considerations.
The final performance of Hydroquinone in any formulation system depends on the complete formulation, raw-material ratio, processing conditions, operating environment, and intended end use. Customers should evaluate product suitability according to their specific formulation and application requirements.
