Product Overview |
N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET, CAS No. 134-62-3) is an effective synthetic insect repellent widely used as a key active ingredient in the production of personal insect repellent products. It is particularly suitable for the formulation of liquid sprays, lotions and cream-type repellents for skin application.
Our DEET is synthesized from domestic qualified m-toluic acid and diethylamine via optimized acyl chloride low-temperature amidation followed by high-vacuum rectification. Multi-stage negative pressure distillation strictly controls isomer and acyl chloride residues. The product has a light color and low skin irritation, making it suitable for high-end spray lotion formulas GC purity reaches ≥99%, which helps formulators avoid finished-product yellowing. It repels mosquitoes, ticks, midges and fleas for outdoor protection.
DEET can also be used in various mosquito-repellent formulation systems, where its molecular structure can provide long-lasting insect-repelling performance, good skin compatibility and formulation flexibility. DEET-based repellent systems are also used in selected outdoor protective goods and household pest-control applications.

Storage: Store N,N‑Diethyl‑m‑toluamide (DEET) in a cool, dry, well‑ventilated warehouse. Keep the container tightly sealed, protect from direct sunlight and high‑temperature heat sources.Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids. Keep away from food, feed and daily consumer goods. Keep out of reach of children.
Storage & Handling Notes
For liquid N,N‑Diethyl‑m‑toluamide (DEET), prolonged exposure to high temperatures, direct sunlight, or strong oxidizing environments may cause product degradation and loss of repellent activity.Store material in tightly‑closed original containers, within a cool and well‑ventilated warehouse, recommended storage temperature below 30 °C. Avoid heavy stacking that may damage packaging drums. Keep away from heat sources, open flame, foodstuff and feed. Prevent accidental contact with skin and eyes during material transfer and handling.

Applications of N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET)
N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET, CAS 134-62-3) is a potent synthetic insect repellent widely used as an active building block in pest-repellent formulation products. Its molecular structure makes it particularly suitable for skin-applied repellent preparations, household insect control products, and selected outdoor protective formulations.
Personal Insect Repellent Preparations
DEET is commonly used in the production of topical insect repellents for human skin application. Its molecular structure can support long-lasting repellent efficacy, good skin compatibility, and formulation flexibility, making it suitable for daily outdoor pest-repellent applications.
Typical application areas include:
Skin-applied insect repellent sprays
Repellent lotions and creams
Travel-size personal repellent products
Outdoor anti-mosquito personal care goods
High-Efficacy & Long-Lasting Repellent Formulations
DEET can be used in repellent systems designed for long-acting, high-efficiency, and skin-friendly repellent products. DEET-based repellent formulations may provide a useful balance of repelling performance and user comfort, including resistance against mosquitoes, ticks, biting flies and other hematophagous insects.
It is particularly suitable for formulations where stable repellent effect, good ingredient compatibility, and safe skin contact performance are required.
Household & Outdoor Pest-Control Products
DEET is also used as a core active component in household and outdoor pest-control articles. These finished product systems are used in home scenarios and outdoor activities requiring reliable insect-repellent performance.
Typical applications include:
Household insect repellent products
Camping & hiking outdoor repellent supplies
Tick-repellent finished goods
Field-use pest-control preparations
Outdoor Protective Articles & End-use Good
DEET-based repellent systems can be used in outdoor protective articles and related end-product applications, particularly where stable insect repellency and long-term protective performance are important performance considerations.
The final performance of DEET in any repellent system depends on the complete formulation, active ingredient concentration, processing conditions, auxiliary ingredient system, and intended end use. Customers should evaluate product suitability according to their specific formulation and application requirements.
Advantage
Broad-spectrum & high efficiency, the gold standard for mosquito repellents
DEET achieves nearly 100% repellent effect against all common blood-sucking mosquitoes, including those carrying dengue and malaria. It outperforms plant-based ingredients such as citronella oil (which only lasts 1–2 hours) significantly in areas with dense mosquitoes, jungles and epidemic regions.
Long-lasting stability, sweat and water resistant
Formulations with 20%–30% concentration provide 6–8 hours of continuous protection. N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide’s efficacy is barely reduced after sweating or contact with water, ideal for hiking, camping and field work. When sprayed on fabrics, it can remain effective for several days.
Proven safety with long-term application history
N,N-Diethyltoluamide having been used worldwide for 70 years, it features low toxicity and mild irritation at compliant concentrations (≤30% for adults, ≤10% for children). It is safe for infants over 2 months old, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Not for infants under 2 months old.
Wide application range, reliable performance in extreme environments
Diethyltoluamide maintains stable efficacy under harsh conditions like high temperature, high humidity, rainforests, wetlands and epidemic areas, making it the top choice for forestry work, fishing, adventure and outdoor operations.
Cost-effective and easy to formulate
DEET has a purity of ≥99% and can be used after dilution. It has a much lower unit cost than new alternatives such as picaridin. With mature production techniques, impurities are well controlled.
