Product Overview |
Magnesium hydroxide is an inorganic flame-retardant powder widely applied as functional filler for plastics, rubber and coating materials.
Produced from purified Laizhou Bay brine via brine synthesis, crystallization, multi-stage washing and optional surface activation treatment, this product features stable purity, high whiteness and low heavy metal & chloride content.
It is particularly suitable for the formulation of halogen-free flame retardant composites for polymer products and environmental-friendly architectural coatings, When exposed to high temperature, it absorbs heat and releases water vapor to suppress combustion and smoke generation. Can provide raw powder and modified versions.
Magnesium hydroxide can also be used in waste-water treatment and flue-gas desulfurization systems, where its chemical property can support low smoke density, non-toxic halogen-free performance, and excellent acid-neutralizing capacity. Magnesium-hydroxide-modified materials are also used in selected industrial insulation materials and environmental-protection chemical applications.

Storage & Handling Notes
For powdered Magnesium hydroxide, prolonged exposure to high humidity, moisture or direct contact with water may cause the material to agglomerate. Store in a dry, well‑ventilated place, avoid heavy stacking pressure which may lead to caking of the powder. Keep containers tightly sealed after opening.

Applications of Magnesium hydroxide
Magnesium hydroxide (CAS 1309-42-2) is an inorganic mineral powder widely used as a functional filler and halogen-free flame retardant in polymer, environmental-protection and coating formulations. Its chemical properties make it particularly suitable for flame-retardant composites, waste-water treatment, and selected high-performance environmental-friendly systems.
Polymer & Rubber Flame Retardant Fillers
Magnesium hydroxide is commonly used in the production of halogen-free flame-retardant polymers for plastic and rubber products. Its mineral structure can support low smoke emission, non-toxic performance, and good thermal stability, making it suitable for polymer material applications.
Typical application areas include:
Polyethylene and polypropylene composites
Rubber insulation materials
Wire and cable compounds
Building plastic profiles
Household plastic products
High-Performance Coatings & Construction Materials
Magnesium hydroxide can be used in coating systems designed for low-smoke, non-toxic, and environmental-friendly architectural coatings. Magnesium-hydroxide-based coating formulations may provide a useful balance of filling performance and fire-resistant property, including acid-neutralizing capacity, moisture resistance, and corrosion inhibition.
It is particularly suitable for formulations where halogen-free feature, good dispersion, and stable filling performance are required.
Magnesium hydroxide is also used as an acid-neutralizing component in water treatment and flue-gas desulfurization systems. These systems are applied in environmental-protection projects and applications requiring mild and efficient neutralizing performance.
Typical applications include:
Industrial wastewater neutralization treatment
Flue-gas desulfurization for power plants
Heavy-metal ion precipitation
Municipal sewage adjustment
Building Insulation & Composite Materials
Magnesium-hydroxide-modified systems can be used in building insulation and composite applications, particularly where fire safety performance and long-term environmental stability are important performance considerations.
The final performance of Magnesium hydroxide in any compound or treatment system depends on the complete formulation, particle size, processing conditions, dosage, and intended end use. Customers should evaluate product suitability according to their specific formulation and application requirements.
